FR : Doté de moyens exceptionnels, allant du borborygme au chant lyrique, en passant par le beatbox, le suisse Andreas Schaerer est un ovni dans le paysage des vocalistes de jazz. “Révélation européenne“ de Jazz Magazine en 2014 et Echo Jazzpreis en Allemagne en 2015, son nom s’est vite répandu à travers toute l’Europe. Il parcourt les festivals et les salles avec son compatriote Lucas Niggli dans une formule duo originale : une voix, une batterie et des trésors d’inventité. Instinctive et organique, leur musique improvisée s’ancre dans une modernité tous azimuts. Le duo s’est récemment augmenté de l’accordéoniste italien Luciano Biondini et de l’éclectique guitariste finlandais Kalle Kalima pour un projet original, drôle, sophistiqué et époustouflant.

EN : Equipped with exceptional means, ranging from borborygism to lyric singing, to beatbox, the Swiss Andreas Schaerer is a UFO in the landscape of jazz vocalists. Jazz Magazine’s « European Revelation » in 2014 and Echo Jazzpreis in Germany in 2015, its name quickly spread throughout Europe. He travels the festivals and the halls with his compatriot Lucas Niggli in an original duo formula: a voice, a battery and treasures of invention. Instinctive and organic, their improvised music is anchored in an all-round modernity. The duo has recently grown from Italian accordionist Luciano Biondini and eclectic Finnish guitarist Kalle Kalima for an original, funny, sophisticated and breathtaking project.

MICHE PORTAL NEW QUINTET

FR : Le quintet comprend des musiciens habitués à jouer aux côtés de Michel Portal comme le pianiste franco-serbe Bojan Z et le contrebassiste Bruno Chevillon. Mais c’est à un jeune batteur belge, Lander Gyselinck, que l’on doit la genèse du projet. Michel Portal avait repéré cet artiste de 30 ans lors de ses pérégrinations musicales. Depuis, il souhaitait travailler avec lui et son vœu s’est concrétisé. Le groupe a été complété par le tromboniste allemand Nils Wogram, qui, lui, connaît bien Bojan Z. Entre le groove impeccable d’une paire rythmique impressionnante et les mélodies lancées par des quelques un des plus grands instrumentistes européens, un soupçon d’électronique pour un cocktail détonnant.

EN : The quintet includes musicians who are used to playing alongside Michel Portal, such as Franco-Serbian pianist Bojan Z and bassist Bruno Chevillon. But it is to a young Belgian drummer, Lander Gyselinck, that we owe the genesis of the project. Michel Portal had spotted this 30-year-old artist during his musical wanderings. Since then, he wanted to work with him and his wish was realized. The group was completed by the German trombonist Nils Wogram, who knows Bojan Z. Between the impeccable groove of an impressive rhythm pair and the melodies launched by some of the greatest European instrumentalists, a hint of electronics for an explosive cocktail.
