A Stronger Europe Without National Vetoes?

En ligne, Strasbourg
Entrée libre
Dans le cadre du festival : European Year of the Youth
Organisé par MeetEU

Be it the sanction policy against Russia or a joint declaration criticizing China’s Hong Kong ‘security law’ – EU decisions are regularly blocked by the veto of a single member state. Many EU citizens say this hostage-taking on foreign policy must end. They call for making majority voting the rule. On the other hand, there are smaller EU member states that fear being outvoted. And there are the Eurosceptic governments, which believe that European integration has already gone too far.

What is your opinion? Would the EU be stronger without national vetoes? Or do unanimous decisions actually strengthen European integration?

Let’s discuss this with our guests:
• Omri Preiss, Managing Director of Alliance4Europe
• Gabriele Bischoff, Member of the European Parliament (S&D)

LET'S MAKE EUROPE A
BETTER PLACE

United in diversity – that’s the motto we share at MeetEU! Since April 2020, we have been organizing weekly events with Members of the European Parliament, European Commission representatives, EU activists and scientists. At our events, participants can discuss their ideas directly with decision-makers and experts.

Our mission is to bring EU citizens closer to EU politics. Our event participants join from all over Europe. We all come from different backgrounds. But once a week, we come together with one goal: to share perspectives and make Europe a better place.

MeetEU is a project run by volunteers
